In Honor

Posted by Connie at 1:10 PM

What were you for Halloween? I was La Noche or as we would say in English: The Night! I loved it!! Especially since Hansel (who was a frightening looking Devil) and I went to a fun party full of dancing all night outside, under the stars! I guess you could say I blended right in!! Heehee!

Though, as some of you may or may not know, today is the first day of Diá de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). It is a two day holiday celebrated in most of Latin America, Spain, and parts of the United States such as the beautiful state of Arizona where I live! This is a time to remember loved ones that passed away and celebrate their life AND life in general through food, festivities, and my favorite: ART! This past week in Studio 307, what I affectionately call my classroom, we studied Diá de Los Muertos and created our own calaca masks inspired by the traditional Mexican ones that we looked at. This project is easy and a lot of fun to do!

If you or any of the kiddos in your life would like to make a calaca mask like the ones my kiddos are wearing above, all you need to do is sign up for the Dirty Footprints Studio newsletter HERE today or tomorrow--and I will email you the template and directions. If you are already on the mailing list--no need to worry....you'll be receiving a newsletter soon with an opportunity for you to make your own calaca mask as well!!!

So...do you celebrate Diá de Los Muertos? Did you get dressed up for Halloween? Share!!! I would love to know.

Peace & Love.

We weren't going to, but I LOVE Halloween/Samhain- so in ten minutes I makeuped my face, put on a pirate skirt, leggings, red stripped socks pulled, wiccy-boots and a gipsy scarf. And voila- I was a gipsy witch! As I wasn't feeling well, and we didn't get trick or treaters in our apartment complex, we walked around the neighbourhood pretending to be going to a party and sneakily ohhing and ahhing over the little kiddie costumes.
kinda creepy? yes. fun? yep!

follow this up with some pumpkin beer (YUM) and some scifi programming and we were good to go :)

Love your "Noche" costume!

Love your website!

I am also an artist. (Although new to the whole blogging world.) I lOVE the photograph of you as La Noche and would like to consider using it in my artwork if you would be ok with that. You can take a look at my site first and then let me know.

Thank you!
