thanks for your "teaching" stories--i am an elementary art teacher in a suburban area (so no metal detectors for me) and i teach over 900 students a week. i always strive to connect with my kids, to inspire trust and allow them to create what is in their heart

What an inspiring, courageous, wise woman you are, Miss Connie! It seems you were born a 'wise woman' - many of us have to wait until we're of more mature years before we acquire such wisdom. I sooooo wish you'd been my art teacher back in the 1950s & 60s! Instead of 'the 'art teacher from hell'. Because then I wouldn't have spent a huge chunk of my life creatively blocked and thinking that I had not an artistic bone in my body. I am still struggling with that and hope to take your Fearless course sometime when time permits. xxoo

I love this story. It reminds me of Freedom Writers! I'm an English tutor for an online private school for troubled teens and though I don't teach directly, I do get to grade and provide feedback on essays. My goal is to encourage students and get them excited about writing because I really believe they needs a mode of expression that doesn't involve dangerous behaviors. It's rough sometimes. Thanks so much for this post, it's a good boost before I go to work today!
