One Cool Chica: Carla Falb

Posted by Connie at 5:00 AM 2 comments Links to this post
I actually found Carla Falb's Art work this Summer but have been waiting to feature her until school started back up. I love her paintings and especially her black and white drawings. Part of why I dig her work is because I'm a huge fan of roller coasters...but more then that, I think her work creates that feeling of absolute fear tangled around pure excitement. Then, when you begin to look closer...you can discover that there is deeper meaning going on here. The roller coaster turns into a metaphor...and I see it as the ups, downs, twists, and turns of this beautiful Creative Juicy Life!!

"Carla Falb began her Roller Coaster Series in the fall of 2001. No, she is not a roller coaster fanatic and doesn’t consider her work as literally depicting the specific rides. Instead, Falb thinks of her series as being more about the layers of metaphorical meanings based on the various coasters’ physical structures, sudden turns, extreme drops, and cyclical ride.

She sees her work as a metaphysical journey that connects the complexities of our physical/ emotional existence with the spiritual realm. Actually, Falb’s interest in metaphysics dates back to discussions with her father, a Methodist minister, who shared his beliefs as well as his eclectic interests with her: i.e. the writings of Carl Jung and Herman Hesse, and music ranging from Beethoven to the Beatles. "

When I found Carla's work I emailed her how much I loved it...and that I planned to share it with my kiddos at school...I told her that I was certain soon they would idolize her like another Picasso!! Carla sweetly emailed me back and informed me that she also teaches Art--to high schoolers!

Carla Falb is definitely one cool chica.

Diametrically Opposed

Mati keeps a blog on her Creative Juicy Life right HERE. It's full of little tid-bits from her life of painting and getting her work out there in shows.

Ethereal

Artist Shayla Maddox.

I was just randomly cruising through the paintings on Trunkt when I came across the work of the Artist Shayla Maddox. There is something ethereal and magical about her paintings that I really like. Plus, I adore the connection her paintings make to the natural world by changing with the seasons and the character of light. Beautiful!

"I make Light Reactive Paintings. Light itself changes the color and effect of each piece.

They will look different throughout the day (and year) and in all forms of light.

My art is also UV reactive and glows in the dark."

You can visit her blog HERE.
Treat yourself in her Etsy shop HERE.
Grab some inspiration in her online gallery HERE.

Shayla Maddox is one cool chica!

Fabulous.

This is the contemporary painter Jane Filer. I found her work for the first time this week...and I keep visiting her site HERE. I am absolutely in love with each of her magical brushstrokes.

She has an Artist retreat in March in North Carolina and I am asking the Universe now for the gift of me to go! (please!!)

Riverwood

My paintings are evolved from historical and prehistoric observations. They are my response to clues I have gathered from the most ancient to the most modern visual references available.

The Return at Twilight

Blending this with the relationship I have with my own existence I create a fantastical story. The sense of story is used to provoke exciting aspects of being and existing in this amazing world.

Owls Over Angier

I am in love with color and sensual surface textures on my canvases

Balancing Moonlight

and I am in love with life.

Take a look at these rockin' masks she made for one of her openings!!

Definitely a cool chica!

Creative Juicy Life

Posted by Connie at 6:00 AM 5 comments Links to this post
I took this little diddy awhile back in Sedona, AZ!!

Everyone has their own name for it....Brandi Reynolds calls it the Joy Rebellion....Christine Reed of Bliss Chick calls her life's manifesto: Eccentricity Revolution for Wild Women ....Lately, I find myself throwing the words CREATIVE JUICY LIFE around! As I think of my vacation days beginning to wane, and work soon on the horizon, I've been writing down notes-to-self on little things I notice that make my Creative Juicy Life actually creative and juicy!! There is no reason that the bliss I have newly uncovered can not grow and stay present as my life's circumstances change and evolve. I am on a mission to live this Creative Juicy Life fully...and to share the beauty and struggles of maintaining it here with you in Dirty Footprints Studio.

So with that said, I have an exciting announcement!
Drum roll please. Que the dancers.

This Sunday, July 19, 2009 at 3:00 pm EST the vivacious, wonderful, and highly creative Genie Sea of the blog Reality Insanity will be hanging out in the Dirty Footprints Studio for a conversation on living a CREATIVE JUICY LIFE!!!! We will be discussing how both of us define a creative juicy life and the importance of finding time and space for creativity in one's life. I look forward to speaking with Genie--she is one cool chica who lives her life true to the callings of her heart.

Plus, I am excited to share that I officially changed my radio show's title from Dirty Footprints Studio Talk to Creative Juicy Life. Doesn't that have such a better ring to it? I love it!!

I hope you will join the conversation on Sunday with Genie Sea. You can actually add your nuggets of wisdom by calling in at the number 646.727.3034 or you can go HERE to listen live. Don't worry---if you miss it, be sure to listen at your leisure by visiting the player on my side bar or by visiting the home of Creative Juicy Life HERE.

Peace & Love.

Spreading The Love

Posted by Connie at 7:34 AM 7 comments Links to this post
Those are Mel's feet!! (I do the exact same thing when we travel!!!)

This summer I met a cool chica on Twitter named @melhocking.

I right away liked her.
So I started calling her Mel.

Mel writes a blog called Melly Hocking.
There she shares her reflections on life--
and lots of other nuggets of goodness.
She even has started a Sunday interview series
where she asks love cats out in the bloggy world
to share their story--
and a photo.

I was tickled.
Yes, tickled---
when Mel asked Hansel & I to share our love journey.

So that's what we did.

Curious?
You can check it out HERE.

But I'll warn ya,
It gets a little silly (that's us!).
And a tad bit strange (that's us too!).
But we made a point to be honest
...and in love, isn't that what you always want?

Thank you Mel.

You're definitely one cool chica.

Peace & Love.
